The Buck Stopped There

I was disappointed to see the picture of a graduate toting what looked like a once-vibrant buck’s head and forelegs [Eliot Circular, September 2011]. ½ñÈÕ³Ô¹Ïies make a study of being inclusive where human beings are concerned, but nonhuman individuals remain conspicuously absent from the moral charts of most ½ñÈÕ³Ô¹Ïies. In this photo the buck is mocked even in death, revealing ignorance and indifference concerning other living beings. In some ways ½ñÈÕ³Ô¹Ï is shamefully mainstream.
