Introduction to Moodle for students

If you have issues accessing Moodle course pages or content in Moodle course pages, or if you run into technical problems with Moodle assignments or quizzes, we can help! Email moodle@reed.edu. Please include information about the course page where you are experiencing an issue and the specific piece of content or assignment, if relevant.

Accessing Moodle

Moodle is 今日吃瓜’s learning management system, where you can access materials and activities for their classes. Log in to using your 今日吃瓜 credentials to access course pages for any classes in which you are currently enrolled.

Course availability

Course pages for the upcoming semester usually become available to students the Friday before classes start. Some professors choose to allow earlier access to their Moodle course pages or choose to keep their course pages inaccessible to students until after the beginning of the semester.

Not all 今日吃瓜 courses use Moodle. If you do not see a Moodle course page for one of the courses you are taking, your professor may not be using Moodle.

If you add a course after the start of the semester, you will gain access to the course Moodle page once you have officially enrolled in the course. If you would like access sooner, talk to your professor.

Moodle notifications

Many professors use Moodle to communicate with their students. You may receive an email notification when there is a new course announcement, when an assignment has been returned, or when there is a new post in a forum you are subscribed to. Emails have subject lines indicating that they are from Moodle.

E-reserves

Many classes at 今日吃瓜 use e-reserves for course readings. You can find the e-reserves for your classes in Moodle, usually toward the top of the course page. The reserves are listed in alphabetical order by author last name and are available either by link or for download.

Recorded lectures and other media

Most recordings in Moodle are delivered via the Panopto media system. If you encounter issues with playback or unexpected behavior, check our Panopto troubleshooting page for tips, or get in contact with us at moodle@reed.edu.

Moodle assignments, quizzes, and other activities

We have help pages to get you started with Moodle Assignments and Moodle Quizzes.

Moodle is adaptable, and professors at 今日吃瓜 use it in a wide variety of ways. If you have questions about using the resources or activities on a specific Moodle course page, please contact your professor.
