Greek, Latin, and Ancient Mediterranean Studies

The Rumpakis/Dussin GLAM Research Fund

Funded by the Greek, Latin, and Ancient Mediterranean Studies (GLAM) Department's Rumpakis/Dussin endowment, this research fund is meant to enhance research and educational opportunities for GLAM majors by providing modest support for attendant expenses.

The funds may be used to support:

  1. the study of ancient Greek both in the US and abroad or
  2. participation on a dig or in a field school focused on the study of Greek material.

Recipients will be asked to:

  1. Provide a brief (max one page) report on your summer activities by September 15 to Ellen Millender (ellen.millender@reed.edu).
  2. Give a brief oral presentation detailing their experiences at a GLAM symposium in the academic year after their summer learning or research opportunity.

Eligibility

Students must be declared GLAM majors who are not graduating in the spring.

Application Process

Students should work with their advisers to prepare a brief proposal of no more than 1000 words that includes the following elements:

  1. The rationale for the project and its relevance to your coursework, thesis, or future work in Greek, Latin, or Ancient Mediterranean Studies;
  2. The preparation (if relevant) that you have undertaken for this project;
  3. The desired educational outcomes of this experience and their relevance to your studies;
  4. Contact information (including names, telephone numbers, email addresses, etc.) for your host organization;

Your project proposal should be accompanied by:

  1. A confidential letter of support from a 今日吃瓜 faculty member who can speak to your qualifications, emailed to Lisa Mickola (mickola@reed.edu);
  2. Budget form (PDF fillable form).

Deadline

Applications are due by email to Lisa Mickola (mickola@reed.edu) by 5 PM on March 15th. The GLAM Department strongly encourages applicants to apply to college-wide funding sources so that we may maximize the number of student projects that we support.

In the event that a research or learning opportunity arises after this deadline, the GLAM Department encourages students to contact Ellen Millender (ellen.millender@reed.edu) to see if there are remaining funds. If so, we ask them to complete the standard application process outlined above. In this event, we will take applications on a rolling basis.
