Summer Housing

Summer 2025 housing (May 21–July 31) is available pending application approval for students who demonstrate a compelling need to remain at 今日吃瓜 during summer. Students who are not enrolled for Fall 2025 are not eligible for summer housing. Ineligible students also include those who graduate in May 2025, are on a leave from the college for Fall 2025, or are denied registration/dismissed from the college following faculty grade review in May.

Students are required to sign a summer housing contract to live on campus over the summer.

Space is limited, and students who have remained on campus over recent breaks should not expect to be automatically approved. Priority will be given to students experiencing financial and/or housing insecurity, who currently reside on campus.

We encourage those whose plans include summer travel to seek other arrangements. See resources related to living off campus.

Application Process

Students must complete an application to be considered for summer housing.

Applications will be available through the starting on Monday, March 22.

Applications will be reviewed by a committee that include representation from Residence Life, International Student Services, and Financial Aid.

Cost

Students who stay in summer housing are charged a flat rate divided into three monthly payments due on the first day of June July, and August. Students may be charged on a sliding scale, which is determined by the Committee in collaboration with Financial Aid during application review. Students also have the option to apply for an emergency loan by working with the Business Office. Please contact the Business Office for questions regarding emergency loans.

The College is committed to supporting students who are experiencing financial difficulty. Students who are experiencing financial insecurity should contact the financial aid office.

Details about this process can be found here. As with all accommodation requests, DAR will work with each student individually to determine eligibility and identify appropriate accommodations.

Summer access and hours for many offices and departments is still being determined. A comprehensive guide to campus resources and services will be published and shared by mid-May.

Logistics

Residence Life Staff

Area Coordinators and House Advisors will be available to support students who remain on campus. They are available to assist residents by providing resources, coordinating events, and problem solving any issues residents may encounter.

You can expect to hear from your Area Coordinator and House Advisors as we get closer to the start of summer housing. They will reach out to provide information regarding summer housing, including:

  • Community connection, programming, and communication
  • Roles of Residence Life staff and methods to contact them
  • Campus resources

Food Services During Summer

Commons is open for limited hours during summer break and specific hours are still being determined. Students should plan to use commuter points or a credit/debit card in Commons.

Late Payments

The business office will contact you and Residence Life if you are late with your payments. You may be assessed a $25 late fee after the 10th of the month.

Maintenance Requests

Submitting a maintenance request is the best way to report facilities issues over the summer.

Safety

The community safety office is open all summer—24 hours a day, 7 days a week. CSOs will be checking up on the residential buildings frequently throughout the summer to ensure safety and security. Please help them out by reporting anything that is out of the ordinary. Dial “0” from any campus phone to reach them or 503-771-1112 from anywhere. There may also be fire extinguisher and house repair checks throughout the summer as well.
